Harriet Jacobs 1813-1897: She was born enslaved and escaped. Then what happened? She wrote her autobiography and gained notoriety, but after a time the whole country forgot she was real and believed her story to be a fiction made up by somebody else.
In this program we look at the traumas Harriet faced along with her struggle to survive, thrive and overcome. We discuss some of the people and friends she found along her journey. We also uncover the mystery of how Harriet Jacobs was finally and unequivocally determined by history to, “be real.” This real life mystery involves the pursuit of a modern historian.
